Solo exhibition of mixed media works by Drew Connor Holland.

Cut through the circle is Drew Connor Holland’s third solo exhibition with Jan Murphy Gallery. Central to Drew’s practice is an interest in how we catalogue memories in digital archives, in junk drawers, in our heads. Using screenshots as their starting point he corrodes each image with analogue reproduction processes; the finished artworks reading as dilapidated visions of their original states. The images are then printed onto hand-made paper that Holland produces by pulping the paper-based ephemera of their life (old clothes, junk mail, bills, letters, earlier artworks). The resulting images occupy a space between digital and physical, and are equally anonymous and autobiographical.

About the artist:

Drew Connor Holland graduated from Sydney’s National Art School in 2018 with a Master of Fine Art (Painting). Their first solo exhibition, So Far Away From Love, was hosted by Alaska Projects, Sydney in 2017. In 2022, their work was included in Wrestlemania at Rockhampton Museum of Art and they was commended with a residency at the Shark Island Institute in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Scholarship. Their work is represented in the collections of Maitland Regional Gallery and Townsville City Art Collection.
