Martin Smith

Brisbane artist Martin Smith will create a large-scale text work on the exterior of Jan Murphy Gallery during BAD 2019. The work will be visible to passers-by on Brunswick Street, in the midst of Fortitude Valley’s arts precinct, and will act as a continuation of the artist’s exploration into the narratives that define our everyday lives. Martin has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for nearly two decades. His work is held in significant public and private collections in Australia, Hong Kong and the USA, including QAGOMA, Monash Gallery of Art, MONA and Artbank. In 2017, Martin undertook a residency at the NARS Foundation in Brooklyn, New York.
