State Library of Queensland will spotlight Australia’s most acclaimed contemporary artists from the James C. Sourris AM Collection of Artist Interviews with their latest exhibition, Meet the artists.
Meet the artists showcases the entirety of the collection for the first time in its 12-year history and will reveals artworks from private collections never before publicly displayed.
Leading artists and art world figures, who have lived or exhibited in Brisbane, uncover what has inspired them and their practice with private loans of studio tools, workings, and prototypes of the artworks on display.
Meet the artists is curated by Julie Ewington, an authority on contemporary Australian art. The exhibition takes a deeper dive into the work of 8 extraordinary Queenslanders: Vernon Ah Kee, Luke Roberts, Fiona Foley, Judith Wright, Leonard Brown, Anne Wallace, Sandra Selig, and Eugene Carchesio.
The collection’s 35 interviews will be displayed through a series of intimate rooms and an interactive large-scale projection, a curated selection of most recent works by the highlighted artists, along with personal treasures from the artists? studios will reveal what captures their imaginations and how they create their ground-breaking work.
