Internationally acclaimed Indigenous Artist presents NewWork of Cultural Narratives.
Birrunga is a Wiradyuri man from Bathurst. He is the co-founder/principal artist of the multi award winning Birrunga Gallery located in Brisbane CBD. This is his first solo exhibition in 4 years.
“A significant period of time has lapsed since I’ve had a solo show of new works. During that elapsed period we’ve all been immersed in peculiarities that have combined to unhinge and in some cases, dismantle any and all of our previously held assumptions of balance.
I’ve been and remain extremely fortunate to benefit from the counsel of Culture, Country, Ancestors, Elders, Community and from the amazing humans I’m privileged to be surrounded by. Even in saying that though, the challenges of balance have been ever present and more and more ingenious in their presentation, intensity and duration. It is not an exaggeration to mention that many of the challenges I’ve been presented with and drawn from have been life and death events.
So when I considered this theme for this next show, sat with and contemplated where the common denominator lay for me, ‘balance’ presented, quietly and with weight. I’ll be producing a total of 13 works for this show and am very much looking forward to the challenge of what this process will bring.” – Birrunga
